France prosecutes 25 suspects in a series of attacks on the wealthy in cryptocurrency.
According to local media, French prosecutors have charged 25 suspects, aged between 16 and 23, in connection with a series of violent attacks targeting wealthy individuals in the cryptocurrency sector.
The investigation focuses on the attack on May 13 against the daughter, son-in-law, and grandson of the CEO of the Paymium exchange – Mr. Pierre Noizat. According to prosecutors, the incident was carried out by four armed men in broad daylight. However, thanks to the timely intervention of a passerby, the attacking group had to flee. The three victims sustained only minor injuries and were treated at the hospital.
! This kidnapping shocked the worldAccording to the newspaper Le Monde, the investigation has also expanded to at least two other plots that have not yet been carried out. Sources close to the prosecution said the indicted group included both low-level "performers" and those who played higher-level logistical roles, but did not include the mastermind. A defence lawyer told Le Monde that most of these young men were "manipulated for money and put into a situation that got out of control".
The attacks have attracted the attention of international public opinion in recent weeks, prompting senior officials of the French government to speak out. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau met with leaders in the cryptocurrency industry to discuss response measures.
Similar attacks have also occurred recently in the UK, the US, and several other countries. A community tracking website reported that it has recorded 29 violent attacks targeting cryptocurrency holders since the beginning of 2025 – which may surpass the 34 incidents recorded for the entire year of 2024.
