Brazil plans to impose a fixed tax of 17.5% on encryption transactions, with the relevant proposal set for a hearing in August.

According to ChainCatcher news and Brazilian media livecoins, Brazilian lawmakers will debate a new encryption tax proposal put forward by President Lula. The proposal aims to impose a fixed tax of 17.5% on all encryption transactions and eliminate the income tax exemption for microtransactions. The proposal also covers decentralized finance (DeFi) activities through temporary measures that come into effect in June. Relevant hearings will be held on August 6, and the proposal must be approved by October 8, otherwise it will automatically become invalid.
