Jinse Finance reported that Jacob Gadikian, a developer in the Cosmos ecosystem, shared the investigation results in a post on X on October 16, saying that part of Cosmos's Liquid Staking Module (LSM) may have been built by North Korean developers. Cosmos co-founder Ethan Buchman said in a post on X on October 18 that Cosmos was not previously aware of North Korea's contribution to LSM. Melody Chan, the research lead of the sustainable nonprofit organization Redecentralise, said that malicious North Korean actors may be behind the Cosmos LSM code, which could bring hidden vulnerabilities, just like a secret backdoor in the ecosystem code.
