Telegram and Toncoin (TON) founder Pavel Durov responded to allegations of collaborating with the European Union after being detained!
Telegram and Toncoin (TON) founder Pavel Durov rejected claims by the French media that his brief detention in France last year meant that the messaging platform was being forced to comply with European Union regulations.
In a detailed post shared on the Telegram channel, Durov denied the allegations he called "obvious misinformation," asserting that Telegram complied with EU laws long before the incident. The allegations emerged from a recent French news report suggesting that Durov's detention had 'finally' led to Telegram's compliance with the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA).
Durov wrote, "This is wrong" and added: "Telegram has always been compliant with EU laws."
According to Durov, it was not Telegram that began following the appropriate legal protocols under the DSA after August 2023, but the French police. He stated that since then, requests from law enforcement agencies submitted through appropriate legal channels have enabled French courts to access the IP addresses of crime suspects using Telegram.
Durov stated that Telegram, which is currently the world's second most popular messaging platform, invests millions each year to ensure legal compliance in all jurisdictions. He also noted that the company starts preparing for legal changes long before they come into effect.
