In 1983, traders Richard Dennis and William Eckhardt made a bet that trading skills could be trained. They selected 23 non-financial background 'turtles' from 1000 applicants and, through two weeks of intensive training, taught them a trap-based trend-following trading strategy. The experimental results were astonishing: the turtles achieved an Annual Percentage Rate of up to 80% in live trading over the next 5 years, demonstrating the effectiveness of trading.
