The founder of the messaging app has been arrested, sparking heated discussions about the responsibilities of social platforms.
The French judicial authorities have decided to extend the detention of the founder of a well-known messaging application. The founder was arrested on Saturday at Paris-Le Bourget Airport on suspicion of illegal activities related to the application he developed. The investigation into him involves multiple charges, including fraud, drug trafficking, organized crime, dissemination of terrorist information, and cyberbullying.
According to current laws, this detention may last up to 96 hours. At the end of this period, the judge will need to decide whether to release the suspect or formally charge them.
In response, the messaging application platform issued a statement. The statement indicated that their platform has always strictly complied with various laws and regulations of the European Union. At the same time, they emphasized that the founder "has nothing to hide" and expressed a desire to resolve this incident as soon as possible.
This incident has sparked discussions about the boundaries of responsibility for social media platforms. On one hand, platforms need to provide users with a safe and free environment for communication; on the other hand, they must also prevent the platform from being exploited by criminals. Finding a balance between protecting user privacy and combating illegal activities will be an important challenge for future internet governance.
