The Sandbox co-founder provides an in-depth analysis of the development prospects of the Metaverse and Web3 games.
Recently, the ICC Camp co-hosted an industry sharing session with DeThings, inviting The Sandbox co-founder Sebastien and ABGA executive vice president and Chain Capital founder Simon Li to delve into the integration and development of the Metaverse and Web3 gaming technology.
Simon Li introduced the background and goals of the ICC Camp. ICC Camp is a 6-month acceleration program aimed at bringing more imagination and creativity to the Web3 gaming space. The program invites numerous industry experts to serve as mentors, providing specific guidance to participants. In addition to a strong mentor team, ICC Camp also collaborates with leading institutions to provide various support for participants, such as study trips, scholarships, and public chain grants.
Regarding the characteristics of Web3 game products that attract capital favor, Simon believes they include: innovative gameplay and high-quality experience, a strong community and ecosystem, a healthy token economic system, and clear profitability, among others. To attract Web2 players, Simon emphasizes the need to focus on the gaming experience rather than tokens, simplify the onboarding process, and emphasize player ownership and earnings.
Sebastien shared the development history of The Sandbox. As a decentralized virtual world, The Sandbox allows creators to create content and monetize it without programming. It currently has over 5 million users and more than 400 brand partners. Sebastien stated that The Sandbox's success comes from 11 years of relentless effort, facing challenges such as technology and financing at every step, but they have always focused on the right priorities and continuously demonstrated progress.
When discussing the hardware technologies required for the Metaverse, Sebastien emphasized the importance of blockchain technology. It ensures that users have a digital identity, supports brands and creators in engaging audiences in new ways, and plays a role in governance. For the success of the Metaverse, Sebastien believes that a combination of technology and products, content production, and ecosystem development is necessary.
Regarding the economic model of Web3 games, Sebastien stated that he has seen many innovations and iterations. He looks forward to more successful games emerging in the future, bringing growth to the entire Web3 field. Regarding immersive technologies such as VR and AR, Sebastien believes that the Metaverse will gradually develop, which is not only related to graphics or VR, but more importantly, how to access through different devices and move seamlessly across multiple platforms.
Sebastien suggests that developers who want to use blockchain technology should first clarify their motives, focus on the product itself, and consider user experience. He also shared how Sandbox collaborates with other Web3 games, including NFT interoperability, creative platform partnerships, and more.
The ICC Camp is now open for student registration, providing comprehensive guidance and various resources support for the camp program. Sebastien and Simon will also serve as mentors to bring more entrepreneurial insights to the project.
