Chain games have been lukewarm lately, but I have been keeping an eye on them. Today, I want to share with you @AnichessGame, a chess game that I have recently been obsessed with!
It is not the traditional step-by-step type, but Anichess that can cast "spells". After playing for a few days, I found this game quite interesting. It's not just simply putting chess on the blockchain; it's more like equipping this ancient game with a new engine!
First, let's take a look at the basic background of the game, which is something everyone is quite concerned about.
It is incubated by Animoca Brands, and those who understand Web3 should know that Animoca has been working in the blockchain gaming and digital assets space for quite a while, with ample resources and experience!
The main point is that it was developed in collaboration with Chess.com, which has 200 million registered users and 30 million active users per month, meaning it can directly reach a large majority of chess players worldwide!
There is also world champion Magnus Carlsen standing on stage. Not only does he participate in organizing competitions, but his endorsement as a player of his caliber indicates that the strategic depth of the game itself is certainly sufficient and worthy of recognition.
Two: What kind of gameplay is it?
Traditional chess follows the rules of "the horse moves in an L shape, and the elephant moves diagonally." This game adds 13 new skills, such as a skill that can turn a regular piece into a knight, and another that allows a piece to teleport directly. Players can accumulate energy each turn, with a maximum of 8 points. Once enough energy is gathered, skills can be used.
The rules for winning are also simpler than traditional chess; instead of using terms like "check" and "checkmate," you just need to capture the opponent's king.
The first time I played, I was about to lose, but I used a skill called "Tactical Necessity" to sacrifice one of my pawns and take the opponent's queen, turning the game around in an instant. This kind of unpredictable situation is much more interesting than traditional chess, it's mainly very exciting!
Three: How is the experience data of the game?
The game @AnichessGame is quite popular among players now, with over a million people playing in the Web3 community. In the PVP mode alone, there are 400,000 players, and 10% of them are willing to spend money on purchases, which I think is a very high proportion in the blockchain gaming space.
Recently, the little challenge that just launched on the Base chain (Anichess Puzzles) is the kind of simple and easy-to-handle task. It entered the top 10 of Base applications in just two days and was pushed to the homepage in three days. You can tell that everyone really enjoys playing, not just coming to hype it up.
Four: Anichess's NFTs and tokens
The situation in the community is quite interesting. Their NFT is called Ethernals, and there are only 960 of them. At first, they were free to claim, but now one can be sold for 0.4 Ether, and very few people are listing them for sale. Over the long term, less than 5% of them have been listed for sale, which shows that everyone is willing to hold onto them for the long term and doesn't want to sell easily; they are all waiting for their rewards!
The key is that this NFT is not just a profile picture; in the future, to participate in the Spell Chess league and receive $CHECK token airdrops, you will need to use it, which is equivalent to a pass.
Speaking of $CHECK, this is the token they are going to launch in August. I looked at how the tokens are distributed, and more than half are given to players and the community. 36.4% is directly given to players as rewards, and 19% is used for ecological development. Unlike some projects where the tokens are kept tightly in the hands of the team, this clearly aims to allow players to benefit as well. After all, whether the game can continue to thrive ultimately depends on whether players are willing to keep playing.
Five: Anichess has entered the esports scene, and now you can earn points in the fourth season.
Recently, this game has made its way into the esports scene. They collaborated with Sidekick and went to the offline finals of the LOL China-Korea match. From a board game in chain games, they stepped onto the familiar esports stage, which is quite a big leap. As a result, many people who previously didn't understand Web3 now know about this new gameplay called "Spell Chess." I have to say, Sidekick did a great job organizing this offline finals; it was really high-end!
They are currently working on the fourth season, which is the last season before the launch of the $CHECK token. You can earn points by playing the game (these points will affect the subsequent airdrop rewards), and the top 64 will be able to compete in the playoffs for a prize pool of $10,000. I have been accumulating points for a few days now, and I feel quite happy playing and have some small hopes.
Six: Future Gameplay Planning
They also plan to bring the player-versus-player mode to more chains, with features like arenas and skill synthesis being added in the beta version.
Just imagine, in the future, you can gather materials to create exclusive skills, and you can play chess with players from all over the world on different chains. This gameplay is quite innovative!
You can actually tell that Anichess is not just an "old game with a Web3 facade"; it truly combines the strategies of chess with the uncertainty of spells quite well. Furthermore, this large platform brings players in, and the Web3 side offers rewards, allowing players to win through their skills while also gaining real benefits.
If you are interested in strategy games or Web3-related topics, you should definitely give it a try. Since it's just starting out, you might even catch the preparation phase for the airdrop!
