Breaking News! Shi Yongxin's "Double Life"
The renowned abbot of Shaolin Temple, Shi Yongxin, has shocked everyone! On the evening of July 27, 2025, Shaolin Temple issued a statement saying that Shi Yongxin is suspected of criminal offenses, embezzling project funds and temple assets, seriously violating Buddhist precepts, and maintaining improper relationships with multiple women for a long time, even having an illegitimate child. The internet exploded instantly!
In 1965, Shi Yongxin was born into an ordinary farming family in Ying Shang, Anhui, where the family was extremely poor, and he had to work in the fields from a young age. At the age of 16, he secretly ran away to Songshan and became a disciple under the 29th abbot Xingzheng, receiving the Dharma name "Yongxin." At that time, the Shaolin Temple was dilapidated, with only about ten monks, barely sustaining their livelihood with thirty mu of thin farmland, and even begging for alms was fraught with difficulties.
After the passing of Xing Zheng in 1987, at the age of only 22, Shi Yongxin surprisingly took over as the director of the Shaolin Temple Committee, fully managing the affairs of the temple. In just six years, he transformed from a young novice monk into the actual leader of the Shaolin Temple.
In the 1990s, he proposed that Shaolin Temple should "go out". In 1994, he represented Shaolin Temple and won the defamation lawsuit for "Shaolin Ham", marking the beginning of a new era for the temple in brand protection. In 1997, he established Henan Shaolin Temple Industrial Development Co., Ltd. Over the following two decades, the commercial landscape of Shaolin Temple expanded significantly: forming a monk troupe to tour around, bringing Shaolin Kung Fu to Buckingham Palace in the UK; engaging in tea production, film and television, publishing, and cultural creative products, eventually opening stores and starting live broadcasts; investing in the establishment of more than ten companies, involving various fields such as tourism, real estate, medicine, and cultural communication.
The most famous was in 2022, when he spent 452 million yuan to purchase a piece of land in Zhengzhou, which was simply an extraordinary move!
This series of actions has transformed the Shaolin Temple from an ancient temple that relied on incense offerings for its livelihood into a massive institution with an annual income in the billions. Shi Yongxin has also become famous due to his commercial success, but he has simultaneously been thrust into the eye of public opinion. In 2015, a disciple of the Shaolin Temple reported that he was keeping a mistress, had an illegitimate child, owned luxury properties and significant assets overseas, and even claimed he had dual identities. At that time, the official investigation reported "no evidence found," and Shi Yongxin himself denied the allegations. However, it now seems that these rumors may not be so simple.
In fact, his lifestyle issues have always been criticized. It is said that his robe is worth 160,000, and his prayer beads are estimated to be worth over ten million. He even travels in an Audi Q7. How does this resemble a monk who has abandoned all worldly desires? There are also rumors about his complicated love life; as early as 2011, there were rumors that he was "caught for soliciting prostitution"; in 2013, it was rumored that he had a university student lover and a German illegitimate child, and that he had 300 million dollars in overseas deposits.
In 2015, disciple "Shi Zhengyi" reported that he had a mistress and an illegitimate daughter, while disciple Shi Yanlu even publicly accused him of "chaotic private life, embezzlement of assets, and having an illegitimate daughter."
Looking at the income of the Shaolin Temple, the ticket revenue alone exceeds 300 million yuan annually. In addition to the money from incense offerings, donations, sales of derivatives, and dividends from overseas branches, the total income could exceed 1 billion yuan. With so much money, it is hard not to suspect that there might be management issues. Moreover, there have been reports from believers that even the cheap incense at the Shaolin Temple costs 600 yuan, while the expensive ones can go as high as 6,000 yuan. This money from incense offerings has become exorbitant profit. All of this came to a halt!
