On August 14, last week, OpenAI's o3 model defeated a company's Grok 4 in the artificial intelligence (AI) chess competition, winning the championship. The competition, named "AI Chess Exhibition Match," was held on a certain platform, where eight AI models competed in a three-day knockout tournament to determine the top three.

The competition required the AI model to play chess without any specialized training and could only acquire some chess knowledge from the internet before the match. In the final, OpenAI's o3 defeated Grok 4 with a score of 4-0, winning the championship. It is worth mentioning that o3 had a score of 4-0 in all three matches and also swept its fellow competitor o4 mini in the semifinals.

Earlier this year, in another tournament hosted by chess master Levy Rozman, both Grok and ChatGPT lost to the artificial intelligence system Stockfish, which is specifically designed for chess.
