The "Alpenglow" upgrade of Solana aims to increase network speed by 100 times.
PANews May 20 news, according to DL News reports, researchers from the Solana core development team Anza proposed a consensus protocol upgrade plan named "Alpenglow", aiming to shorten the block final confirmation time from 13 seconds to 0.1 seconds, boosting network speed by 100 times. This plan was designed by a team from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and has currently received support from core members including co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko. If approved through community governance voting, this will be the largest protocol upgrade in Solana's history, potentially implemented by the end of 2025 or early 2026. Developers indicate that after the upgrade, the network will have real-time responsiveness comparable to Web2 infrastructure, supporting new application scenarios such as instant payments and gaming. Previously, Solana had faced a failed inflation adjustment proposal, but the team remains optimistic about this technical upgrade.
